Technical Support and Capacity Building Program of ICMSE

ICMSE is dedicated for the development of Social business, microfinance and SME sector throughout developing countries and maintains very ambitious objectives to develop skilled human resources and to dispatch innovative mechanisms for creating new opportunities for the poor self development. As a Technical Support Provider principally concerned about the need to enhance the capacities and capabilities of microfinance institutions and banks and to implement a people-centred approach to long-term sustainable development ICMSE recognizes that microfinance services should be redirected to better serve the needs of the poor through enhanced capacity building and sector-based development service provision. Through technical support and staff training provision designed on the basis of need analysis and focused primarily on cost-effective microfinance operations, Microfinance institutions and banks in developing countries will increase their understanding of the salient elements needed to effectively and efficiently operate a sustainable microfinance scheme. Technical support and Training provision constitute a comprehensive management support tool which can greatly enhance effective microfinance operations and thus better assist MFI, banks and communities in the fight against extreme poverty and exclusion.

The long-term development objective of ICMSE is to design need based product, policies and mechanisms that will positively contribute to poverty eradication through improved access to appropriate financial services offered by local MFI and Banks on a sustainable basis to low income entrepreneurs. This implies the provision of responsive financial services to the poor through building and strengthening the national and local capacities to design, manage and operate micro-finance activities in an effective and sustainable manner.

  1. To strengthen the national and local capacity in terms of institutional, organizational and technical aspects in managing and implementing microfinance activities through sustainable cost-effective responsive financial services to the poor/clients.
  2. To increase the capacity of local MFIs and Microfinance Bank to provide and sustain viable micro-finance best practices and mechanisms to MFIs, banks and practitioners.
  3. To help bridge the existing gap between Microfinance practitioners and policy makers.
  4. To contribute to the development of knowledge, introduce best practices, microfinance expertise dissemination throughout the region.
  5. Participate in the coordination and collaboration between different actors in the sector and promote an appropriate regulatory framework.

ICMSE is dedicated and comprise a horizontal programme of awareness raising, capacity building through training and information dissemination to microfinance sector and practitioners.

The main areas of work are

- Review of existing practices and methods to evaluate the development needs and sector priorities.
- Development of methods and sector planning tools for assessing end-user needs and monitoring and evaluating the social development-related impacts of productive implementation of training programme with a focus on poverty implications.
- Development of strategic training sessions and exposure visits for each of the proposed programmes
- Development of monitoring and evaluation, TOT and Internal control & Risk Management manuals.
